{"id":7176,"date":"2011-12-06T16:02:26","date_gmt":"2011-12-06T22:02:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/?p=7176"},"modified":"2011-12-06T16:02:26","modified_gmt":"2011-12-06T22:02:26","slug":"stained-glass-ornament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/06\/stained-glass-ornament\/","title":{"rendered":"Stained Glass Ornament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This was our very first activity from our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/11\/30\/activity-advent-calendar\/\">Advent Activity Calendar<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0I was so excited about this project! \u00c2\u00a0These suncatchers are easy to throw together and relatively mess-free. \u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;ve done several variations of this stained glass\/suncatcher project&#8230;.there was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/20\/easter-cross-suncatcher\/\">Easter Cross Suncatcher<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/20\/easter-cross-suncatcher\/\">Valentine&#8217;s Suncatcher<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/08\/05\/rainbow-sun-catchers\/\">Rainbow Suncatcher<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, as I mentioned, I was super excited about this one, and pumped about our very first Advent Activity. \u00c2\u00a0I got all our supplies out, and sat down with The Littlest Apple. \u00c2\u00a0He wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with this project. \u00c2\u00a0Sometimes if I get started on my own, he&#8217;ll decide he&#8217;s interested after all and join in. \u00c2\u00a0Not this time. \u00c2\u00a0So this one was all me. \u00c2\u00a0He played with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/02\/gingerbread-playdough\/\">Gingerbread Playdough<\/a> instead. \u00c2\u00a0Maybe your kiddos will enjoy this more than mine did. \u00c2\u00a0I enjoyed it!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Stained-Glass-Ornament.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7179\" title=\"Stained Glass Ornament\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Stained-Glass-Ornament.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"835\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Stained-Glass-Ornament.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Stained-Glass-Ornament-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>What you&#8217;ll need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clear contact paper<\/li>\n<li>Tissue paper, cut into squares or small shapes<\/li>\n<li>Glitter<\/li>\n<li>Permanent markers<\/li>\n<li>Aluminum foil<\/li>\n<li>Scissors<\/li>\n<li>Ribbon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trace a plate on the contact paper to get the basic circle shape for your ornament, then freehand the top of the ornament. \u00c2\u00a0(Make 2 of those, you&#8217;ll be sandwiching them together). Then peel the backing off one circle, and stick the tissue paper squares on. \u00c2\u00a0Add glitter if using. \u00c2\u00a0Then cut the aluminum foil to cover the top part of the ornament you free-handed, and stick that in place. \u00c2\u00a0Now take the backing off the other piece of contact paper, and carefully line them up, sandwiching the tissue paper and glitter inside. \u00c2\u00a0I then took a black sharpie and hand colored the outline on my ornament. \u00c2\u00a0(You could also use black construction paper as a border, as we did with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/20\/easter-cross-suncatcher\/\">Easter version<\/a>, but that&#8217;s a little more work!) \u00c2\u00a0Cut out a hole at the top for your ribbon, then hang your ornament in the window.<\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/12\/06\/stained-glass-ornament\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This was our very first activity from our Advent Activity Calendar. \u00c2\u00a0I was so excited about this project! \u00c2\u00a0These suncatchers are easy to throw together and relatively mess-free. \u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;ve done several variations of this stained glass\/suncatcher project&#8230;.there was the Easter Cross Suncatcher, the Valentine&#8217;s Suncatcher, and the Rainbow Suncatcher.
