{"id":6254,"date":"2011-04-18T21:43:33","date_gmt":"2011-04-19T03:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/?p=6254"},"modified":"2011-04-20T17:43:41","modified_gmt":"2011-04-20T23:43:41","slug":"spring-flowers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/18\/spring-flowers\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Flowers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I spent some time over the weekend adding some spring color to our front flower beds.\u00c2\u00a0 I can handle my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/21\/spring-2010-garden\/\">square foot garden<\/a> fairly well, but when it comes to flowers (particularly those in the front yard), I seem to have a black thumb.<\/p>\n<p>I planted daisies, begonias, petunias, salvia, and marigolds.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m hopeful that I can water them enough (and not too much) and that we&#8217;ve got the right amount of sun and shade in the spot where they are planted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Spring-Flowers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6256\" title=\"Spring Flowers\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Spring-Flowers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Spring-Flowers.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Spring-Flowers-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Spring-Flowers-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6257\" title=\"Spring Flowers 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Spring-Flowers-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"835\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Spring-Flowers-2.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Spring-Flowers-2-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/a><em>Waiting to be planted&#8230;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This evening, I brought in the first the first gardenia bloom from the backyard.\u00c2\u00a0 So fragrant!\u00c2\u00a0 I love gardenia!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Gardenia.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6271\" title=\"Gardenia\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Gardenia.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"734\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Gardenia.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/Gardenia-227x300.jpg 227w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Littlest Apple and I also enjoyed the first strawberry from my square foot garden.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;ve had a baby bunny in our backyard munching on strawberries, but I bunny-proofed, and now we&#8217;re enjoying the first fruits of the season.\u00c2\u00a0 That one little strawberry we had was delicious.\u00c2\u00a0 Perfectly ripe and sweeter than any store-bought strawberry I&#8217;ve had recently.\u00c2\u00a0 Just perfect.\u00c2\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to enjoy more!<\/p>\n<p>Still on my to-do list for spring planting: lavender (didn&#8217;t make it through the winter), basil, blueberries, peppers, jasmine, moonflower, 4 o&#8217;clocks, and evening primrose.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m also hoping to build (okay, ask my husband to build) The Littlest Apple his very own square foot garden.\u00c2\u00a0 Then he can dig, plant, and scoop dirt to his little heart&#8217;s content.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>What kind of spring planting are you doing?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/04\/18\/spring-flowers\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I spent some time over the weekend adding some spring color to our front flower beds.\u00c2\u00a0 I can handle my square foot garden fairly well, but when it comes to flowers (particularly those in the front yard), I seem to have a black thumb.
