{"id":5627,"date":"2011-02-12T20:13:58","date_gmt":"2011-02-13T02:13:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/?p=5627"},"modified":"2011-02-12T20:13:58","modified_gmt":"2011-02-13T02:13:58","slug":"feeding-tube-awareness-a-few-things-i-want-you-to-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/12\/feeding-tube-awareness-a-few-things-i-want-you-to-know\/","title":{"rendered":"Feeding Tube Awareness: A Few Things I Want You To Know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FTAWbanner22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5630\" title=\"FTAWbanner2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FTAWbanner22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FTAWbanner22.jpg 375w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/FTAWbanner22-300x153.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>A Few Things I Want You To Know&#8230;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>My son&#8217;s g-tube (and gastroparesis) does not define him.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, it&#8217;s only a small part of who he is.\u00c2\u00a0 He is a high energy, spirited, funny, curious 3 year old who loves trucks, Buzz Lightyear, playing in the sandbox, and singing songs from the Glee soundtrack.<\/li>\n<li>When you see my son eating fries and a milkshake for lunch, don&#8217;t be so quick to judge us.<\/li>\n<li>The g-tube doesn&#8217;t prevent him from doing much of anything.\u00c2\u00a0 He is still the same little boy who likes to run, jump, bump, tackle, and head butt.\u00c2\u00a0 We probably won&#8217;t let him play tackle football when he gets older (much to his dismay), but there will definitely be sports in his future, g-tube or not!\u00c2\u00a0 He can still go swimming in the pool or in the ocean, wrestle with his dad, and pretty much anything else he sets his mind to.<\/li>\n<li>My son is a very intelligent little boy.\u00c2\u00a0 Please don&#8217;t think that because he has a g-tube that he is developmentally delayed.<\/li>\n<li>We don&#8217;t know what caused his gastroparesis or how long he will have it.\u00c2\u00a0 He may have his g-tube for life, though we&#8217;re hoping he&#8217;ll eventually be able to eat enough calories on his own.\u00c2\u00a0 But you know what?\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re okay with that.<\/li>\n<li>Don&#8217;t feel sorry for him.\u00c2\u00a0 Or for us.<\/li>\n<li>This g-tube is SUCH a GIFT!\u00c2\u00a0 I am so thankful for this amazing medical technology, our health insurance, and all of the other many, many blessings in our lives.\u00c2\u00a0 This is not something that would have been possible 100 years ago, or even today in many other countries where people don&#8217;t have access to medicines and hospitals (let alone health insurance).\u00c2\u00a0 We are very fortunate, indeed!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/02\/12\/feeding-tube-awareness-a-few-things-i-want-you-to-know\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Few Things I Want You To Know&#8230; My son&#8217;s g-tube (and gastroparesis) does not define him.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, it&#8217;s only a small part of who he is.\u00c2\u00a0 He is a high energy, spirited, funny, curious 3 year old who loves trucks, Buzz Lightyear, playing in the sandbox, and singing songs from the Glee soundtrack.
