{"id":5365,"date":"2011-01-06T18:06:50","date_gmt":"2011-01-07T00:06:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/?p=5365"},"modified":"2011-01-06T18:06:50","modified_gmt":"2011-01-07T00:06:50","slug":"good-reads-the-happiness-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/06\/good-reads-the-happiness-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Reads: The Happiness Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve got the perfect book to start out this New Year!\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0061583251?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thepicapp-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0061583251\">The Happiness Project<\/a>, by Gretchen Rubin.\u00c2\u00a0 (Subtitle: Or, Why I spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean my Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0061583251?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thepicapp-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0061583251\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5367\" title=\"The Happiness Project\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/The-Happiness-Project.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After realizing that she wasn&#8217;t spending enough time on the things in her life that really mattered, author Gretchen Rubin dedicated a year to her Happiness Project.\u00c2\u00a0 Each month, she tackled a new area of her life (examples include Marriage, Leisure, Parenthood, Friendship, Books, Attitude).\u00c2\u00a0 Each month gets its own chapter in the book.\u00c2\u00a0 Within each month, she explores several resolutions\/goals.\u00c2\u00a0 For instance, in the month of January, the focus is Boosting Energy.\u00c2\u00a0 To accomplish this, she resolves to: <em>go to sleep earlier, exercise better, toss, restore, organize, tackle a nagging task<\/em>, and <em>act more energetic<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 In the book, she discusses expert advice on each of the resolutions and how she applies it to her own life.\u00c2\u00a0 She admits what works and what doesn&#8217;t.\u00c2\u00a0 Because Rubin has culled together information from all kinds of &#8220;experts&#8221;, from Oprah to the Dalai Lama, this book is chock full of little nuggets of wisdom and strategies to help you reach your goals.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hoping to read through this book AGAIN sometime this month, taking notes this time.\u00c2\u00a0 Many of the author&#8217;s goals and resolutions are similar to my own, though she states that each person will have their OWN Happiness Project.\u00c2\u00a0 In addition to reading the book, I&#8217;d suggest you check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.happiness-project.com\/happiness_project\/\">The Happiness Project blog<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.happinessprojecttoolbox.com\/\">The Happiness Project Toolbox<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 So much great inspiration as we start 2011!<\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/06\/good-reads-the-happiness-project\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve got the perfect book to start out this New Year!\u00c2\u00a0 The Happiness Project, by Gretchen Rubin.\u00c2\u00a0 (Subtitle: Or, Why I spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean my Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun.)
