dish, but maybe I&#8217;ll give it a chance next time.\u00c2\u00a0 When I make meatballs at home, I always make extra, and then we use the leftover meatballs to make meatball subs on hoagies with provolone or mozzarella cheese.\u00c2\u00a0 You can also assemble the meatballs (without baking them) and freeze them for future use.\u00c2\u00a0 I feel like once you&#8217;re on a roll assembling the meatballs, and you&#8217;re already up to your wrists in ground meat, you might as well make more so you don&#8217;t have to mess with it next time.\u00c2\u00a0 I serve the meatballs with my homemade red sauce.\u00c2\u00a0 Making your own sauce is not that much work, and my recipe makes lots of sauce.\u00c2\u00a0 It is easily divided into smaller containers and frozen for future use.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"spaghetti-and-meatballs.jpg\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/spaghetti-and-meatballs.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/02\/spaghetti-and-meatballs.jpg\" alt=\"spaghetti-and-meatballs.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Meatballs<\/h4>\n<p>adapted from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Betty-Crocker-Cookbook-Everything-Today\/dp\/0764568779\/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1203569206&amp;sr=8-2\">Betty Crocker Cookbook<\/a><\/p>\n<p>4 Servings<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 pound lean ground beef<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup dry bread crumbs<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup milk<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon salt<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 teaspoon pepper<\/li>\n<li>1 large egg<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 teaspoon garlic salt<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 teaspoon garlic powder<\/li>\n<li>1\/8 teaspoon onion powder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Directions: Heat oven to 400 degrees F.\u00c2\u00a0 Mix all ingredients.\u00c2\u00a0 Shape mixture into sixteen 2 inch meatballs.\u00c2\u00a0 Place in ungreased rectangular pan, 13 x 9 x 2 inches, or on rack in broiler pan.\u00c2\u00a0 Bake uncovered 20 to 25 minutes or until no longer pink in center.<\/p>\n<h4>Homemade Red Sauce<\/h4>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 tablespoon olive oil<\/li>\n<li>8 cloves garlic, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>1 (28 ounce) can tomato puree<\/li>\n<li>1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomato with basil<\/li>\n<li>1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce<\/li>\n<li>1 (6 ounce) can of tomato paste, Italian style<\/li>\n<li>1 bay leaf<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoons dried oregano<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon dried basil<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon black pepper<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon red chili flakes<\/li>\n<li>1 cup Romano cheese<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Directions:\u00c2\u00a0 In a large saucepan, lightly saute garlic in olive oil at medium heat, 2 -3 minutes.\u00c2\u00a0 Place remaining ingredients in saucepan, bring to a gentle boil.\u00c2\u00a0 Simmer at least 30 minutes, but if you&#8217;ve got the time, the longer, the better.\u00c2\u00a0 Stir frequently.<\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/20\/spaghetti-and-meatballs-with-homemade-red-sauce\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spaghetti and meatballs is one of my favorite comfort foods.\u00c2\u00a0 Considering how much I love it at home, I should really think about ordering it more often when dining out at Italian restaurants.\u00c2\u00a0 I tend to overlook spaghetti and meatballs in favor of a more &#8220;exciting&#8221;
