{"id":4962,"date":"2010-11-20T13:48:31","date_gmt":"2010-11-20T19:48:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/?p=4962"},"modified":"2010-11-20T13:48:31","modified_gmt":"2010-11-20T19:48:31","slug":"turkey-playdough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/20\/turkey-playdough\/","title":{"rendered":"Turkey Playdough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I planned to make homemade playdough as a party favor for the The Littlest Apple&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/11\/18\/turkey-paper-bag-puppets\/\">Thanksgiving Party<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 The original plan was to do <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2009\/10\/30\/pumpkin-spice-scented-playdough\/\">Pumpkin Spice Playdough with fall leaf cookie cutters<\/a> just like last year, but guess what?\u00c2\u00a0 If you wait until the week before Thanksgiving it is impossible to find anything <em>fall<\/em> because the stores have moved on to <em>Christmas<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 So, no fall cookie cutters to be found.<\/p>\n<p>Time for Plan B.\u00c2\u00a0 I remembered seeing some adorable Turkey Playdough at both <a href=\"http:\/\/countingcoconuts.blogspot.com\/2010\/11\/turkey-playdough.html\">Counting Coconuts<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/deannasstuff.blogspot.com\/2008\/11\/thanksgiving-day-2for-kids-again.html\">Just Deanna<\/a> (who actually made for a Thanksgiving party favor), and decided to run with that idea.\u00c2\u00a0 No cookie cutters needed!\u00c2\u00a0 BUT I did need feathers.\u00c2\u00a0 And you know what else is hard to find the week before Thanksgiving?\u00c2\u00a0 FEATHERS!!\u00c2\u00a0 Everyone is doing Thanksgiving projects with feathers.\u00c2\u00a0 I had to go to 3 stores before I found what I was looking for, and the color selection was limited.\u00c2\u00a0 I wound up with bags of white, red, and black feathers.\u00c2\u00a0 Not the original &#8220;rainbow&#8221; palette I had in mind, but real turkeys have white, black and red coloring, right?\u00c2\u00a0 I decided to make it work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lesson learned for next year:\u00c2\u00a0 plan ahead for Thanksgiving crafts and purchase your supplies early!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I used my standard playdough recipe and added a bit of brown food coloring and lots of red glitter.<\/p>\n<p>I packaged the playdough just like last year, tied off with a fall ribbon (also tricky to find the week before Thanksgiving!).\u00c2\u00a0 In addition to the playdough, each favor bag included 2 googly eyes, a beak (a triangle of scrapbook paper) and 2 feet made out of pipecleaners.\u00c2\u00a0 I also included a picture of this little guy&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Turkey-Playdough.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4963\" title=\"Turkey Playdough\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Turkey-Playdough.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"468\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Turkey-Playdough.png 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/Turkey-Playdough-300x252.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Littlest Apple has had so much fun sticking the feathers in his playdough turkey, and doing silly things like putting the feathers on top of the turkey&#8217;s head or in between the turkey&#8217;s eyes.\u00c2\u00a0 He also enjoyed &#8220;carving&#8221;
