{"id":4708,"date":"2010-10-29T16:37:01","date_gmt":"2010-10-29T22:37:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/?p=4708"},"modified":"2010-10-29T16:37:01","modified_gmt":"2010-10-29T22:37:01","slug":"allergy-testing-for-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/29\/allergy-testing-for-me\/","title":{"rendered":"Allergy Testing (For Me)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you read this blog regularly, you know that I get sick frequently and suffer from chronic sinus infections.\u00c2\u00a0 My ENT recommended I get allergy testing, so today was my big day!\u00c2\u00a0 I was dreading it (because of all the needles), but it wasn&#8217;t too bad.<\/p>\n<p>I was tested for 40 of the most common allergens in our area of Texas.\u00c2\u00a0 I tested positive (in the medium to high range) for 29 out of the 40 things I was tested for, and my reactions were spread across all 4 of their categories.<\/p>\n<p>So here&#8217;s what I&#8217;m allergic to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ash Trees<\/li>\n<li>Bayberry\/ Wax Myrtles<\/li>\n<li>Birch Red River<\/li>\n<li>Boxelder<\/li>\n<li>Red Cedar<\/li>\n<li>Eastern Cottonwood<\/li>\n<li>Bald Cypress<\/li>\n<li>American Elm<\/li>\n<li>Hackberry<\/li>\n<li>Pecan<\/li>\n<li>Bahia Grass<\/li>\n<li>Bermuda Grass<\/li>\n<li>Johnson Grass<\/li>\n<li>K-O-R-T Grass Mix<\/li>\n<li>Baccharis<\/li>\n<li>Yellow Curly Dock<\/li>\n<li>Lambs Quarter<\/li>\n<li>Spiny Pigweed<\/li>\n<li>English Plantain<\/li>\n<li>Ragweed Mix<\/li>\n<li>Prairie Sagebrush<\/li>\n<li>Mold Mix #1<\/li>\n<li>Mold Mix #2<\/li>\n<li>Cat Hair<\/li>\n<li>Mouse Epithelia<\/li>\n<li>Mite (D. Farinae)<\/li>\n<li>Mite (D. Ptero)<\/li>\n<li>Loblolly Pine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know what some of those things are (though I do have detailed explanations somewhere in this big packet they gave me), but to sum it up<em><strong> <\/strong><strong>I&#8217;m allergic to: trees, weeds, grass, mold, dust mites, cats.<\/strong> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>I reacted so severely to the <em>pre<\/em>-test for dust mites that they didn&#8217;t need to stick it under my skin.<\/p>\n<p>(I wanted to jazz up this post with a photo of some dust mites, but I can&#8217;t look at them without getting completely grossed out.\u00c2\u00a0 You know all about dust mites right?\u00c2\u00a0 If not, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ehso.com\/ehshome\/dustmites.php\">here&#8217;s a link to learn more<\/a>&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>So, now I need to deep clean the house for dust mites (and start a regular allergy cleaning routine), get an air purifier, a new vacuum (Dyson?).\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe I&#8217;ll add hardwood floors to my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/28\/home-projects-upstairs-to-do-list\/\">Master Bedroom To-Do List<\/a> from yesterday!\u00c2\u00a0 And apparently I need to wear a mask when I&#8217;m outside.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s so very chic, don&#8217;t you think?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a little overwhelmed by all of the cleaning and filtering and  precautions and outside-allergy avoidance that needs to be done (I&#8217;m  allergic to my house, I&#8217;m allergic to outside&#8230;where do I GO?!).<\/p>\n<p>The obvious result of the test was that I&#8217;m an excellent candidate for weekly allergy shots.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, I NEED them.\u00c2\u00a0 It can take 3-6 months before you get any relief from the shots, and treatment is recommended for 3-5 years.\u00c2\u00a0 And even though I HATE shots (and really, is there anyone who thinks &#8220;ooh!\u00c2\u00a0 fun!&#8221; about getting shots?), I&#8217;ll gladly get my weekly shot from now until eternity if it helps me feel a little better on a daily basis!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Have you gone through allergy testing?\u00c2\u00a0 Do you get weekly allergy shots?\u00c2\u00a0 What are you allergic to?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/29\/allergy-testing-for-me\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you read this blog regularly, you know that I get sick frequently and suffer from chronic sinus infections.\u00c2\u00a0 My ENT recommended I get allergy testing, so today was my big day!\u00c2\u00a0 I was dreading it (because of all the needles), but it wasn&#8217;t too bad.
