of our Art Playgroup started this week!\u00c2\u00a0 My goal is to include a little more instruction and discussion with the kids and parents about their projects as we work on them, in preparation for the art classes I plan to teach as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/01\/my-dream-business\/\">my dream business<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>I&#8217;ll discuss why that didn&#8217;t quite go as planned in tomorrow&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/09\/life-with-a-spirited-child-new-series\/\">Life With a Spirited Child<\/a> post (ahem!).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4461\" title=\"Texture Collage\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage1.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage1-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This Texture Collage was one of our projects this week, and I had a blast picking out all of the materials for this project!\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen this idea in a couple of books and blogs, most recently on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.teachpreschool.org\/2010\/09\/we-explored-our-five-senses-in-preschool-touch\/\">Teach Preschool<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Each child was given a selection of textured bits and pieces to use for a collage, and I had larger texture samples in the middle of the table to pass around and explore (that part didn&#8217;t quite happen).\u00c2\u00a0 We glued the materials to cardstock to keep the collages nice and sturdy.\u00c2\u00a0 I explained the meaning of &#8220;texture,&#8221; and encouraged the kids to talk about  the scraps as they felt them and glued them down.\u00c2\u00a0 We talked about words  like bumpy, furry, soft, rough, smooth, spongy, and squishy.\u00c2\u00a0 We also discussed which texture was our favorite.\u00c2\u00a0 It would also be fun to discuss textures we DON&#8217;T like.\u00c2\u00a0 (I don&#8217;t like sponge or cotton balls.)\u00c2\u00a0 The materials included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>aluminum foil<\/li>\n<li>cotton makeup pads (with different textures on each side)<\/li>\n<li>flannel<\/li>\n<li>bubble wrap<\/li>\n<li>sandpaper<\/li>\n<li>corrugated cardboard<\/li>\n<li>scrapbook paper with a raised velvet design<\/li>\n<li>crocodile print paper<\/li>\n<li>microfiber cloth<\/li>\n<li>fake fur<\/li>\n<li>sponge<\/li>\n<li>and a raised-tin-design paper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4455\" title=\"Texture Collage 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage-2.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/Texture-Collage-2-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/07\/texture-collage\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fall &#8220;semester&#8221;
