Pasta with Spicy Sausage and Kale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t cook with Italian sausage very often.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe once or twice a year.\u00c2\u00a0 The Picky Apple and I both find the spices of Italian sausage, particularly the fennel\/anise taste, a bit <em>much<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 But every once in a while, I feel like giving Italian sausage another chance.\u00c2\u00a0 I actually liked it in this dish.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe it was the particular type of sausage I purchased, but I think it had more to do with the combination of flavors here.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a sauce-less pasta dish that can also be served cold (though I think my preference is to eat this warm).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4080\" Pasta with Spicy Sausage and Kale<\/h4>\n<p>inspired by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1400052580?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thepicapp-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=1400052580\">Everyday Italian<\/a> by Giada de Laurentis<\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 bunch of kale, stalks trimmed and torn into bite size pieces<\/li>\n<li>12 ounces mini bow tie pasta<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons olive oil<\/li>\n<li>1 pound spicy Italian sausage, casings removed<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoons minced garlic<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper flakes<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 teaspoon black pepper<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Bring a large pot of water to boil.\u00c2\u00a0 Add the kale and cook until crisp-tender, about 1 minute.\u00c2\u00a0 Strain the kale, reserving all the cooking liquid.\u00c2\u00a0 Set the kale aside.\u00c2\u00a0 Cook the pasta in the same pot of boiling water until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 minutes.\u00c2\u00a0 Drain, reserving 1 cup of the cooking liquid.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in a large, heavy skillet, heat the oil over a medium flame.\u00c2\u00a0 Add the sausage and cook, breaking up with a spoon, until the sausage is brown and juices form, about 8 minutes.\u00c2\u00a0 Add the garlic and red pepper flakes, and saute until fragrant, about 30 seconds.\u00c2\u00a0 Add the kale and toss to coat.\u00c2\u00a0 Add the pasta and enough reserved cooking liquid, 1\/4 cup at a time, to moisten.\u00c2\u00a0 Stir in the Parmesan cheese, salt to taste, and pepper into the pasta mixture.\u00c2\u00a0 Transfer to
