{"id":3277,"date":"2010-06-03T20:46:10","date_gmt":"2010-06-04T02:46:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/?p=3277"},"modified":"2010-06-03T20:46:10","modified_gmt":"2010-06-04T02:46:10","slug":"good-reads-roots-shoots-buckets-and-boots-by-sharon-lovejoy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/06\/03\/good-reads-roots-shoots-buckets-and-boots-by-sharon-lovejoy\/","title":{"rendered":"Good Reads: Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots, by Sharon Lovejoy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0761110569?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thepicapp-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0761110569\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3278\" title=\"Roots Shoots Buckets and Boots\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/Roots-Shoots-Buckets-and-Boots.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"136\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As I&#8217;ve become more and more interested in gardening, I&#8217;ve been looking for ways to share my interest with The Littlest Apple.\u00c2\u00a0 He loves digging in the dirt, admiring flowers and leaves, watching our vegetables grow, and helping with yard work.\u00c2\u00a0 I let him help with our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/21\/spring-2010-garden\/\">Spring Garden<\/a> this year (progress post coming up soon), and I created a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/14\/gardening-sensory-bin\/\">Gardening Sensory Bin<\/a> for him.<\/p>\n<p>I read about this book on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artfulparent.typepad.com\/\">The Artful Parent<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0761110569?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=thepicapp-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0761110569\">Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots: Gardening Together With Children<\/a> by Sharon Lovejoy is such an amazing resource!\u00c2\u00a0 Not only is this book filled with gorgeous drawings, but there is also a plethora of information about activities, projects and crafts to do with kid-friendly plants you can grow.\u00c2\u00a0 There are plans for 9 different theme gardens, including a Pizza Patch, a Sunflower House, Flowery Maze, and a Moon Garden to visit at night.\u00c2\u00a0 There is a wonderful chapter at the beginning of the book about the top twenty plants for kids.<\/p>\n<p>There are so many great ideas from this book that I can&#8217;t wait to try!\u00c2\u00a0 My wishlist of plants to try (already a longish list) now includes: hollyhocks, woolly lamb&#8217;s ear, four o&#8217; clocks, evening primrose, and moon plant.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m also going to plant the same mammoth sunflowers I had so much success with last year.\u00c2\u00a0 This book contains several sunflower projects that I think The Littlest Apple would enjoy.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m already growing some beans, but I&#8217;d like to make a teepee covered with beans or some other quickly spreading vine.\u00c2\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t that be so much fun for little ones to play in?<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re even the slightest bit interested in gardening and looking for inspiration (whether you have kids or not!) you should definitely check out this book!\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m looking forward to reading some of Sharon Lovejoy&#8217;s other books.<\/p>\n<p><em>Disclosure: I have not been asked to review this book.\u00c2\u00a0 This was just a Good Read I wanted to share!
