products.\u00c2\u00a0 In an effort to cut back the junk and dyes I&#8217;m feeding him (while still giving him lots of calories&#8230;it&#8217;s a tough balance), I decided to attempt this recipe at home.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s time consuming and a little labor intensive, but I was so proud of the final product (though I&#8217;m lacking a photo of the final product).\u00c2\u00a0 It was really cool to be able to say &#8220;I did it!\u00c2\u00a0 I MADE these!&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 The Littlest Apple never touched them though&#8230;they didn&#8217;t come in a wrapper with tie-dye colors.\u00c2\u00a0 What a shame.\u00c2\u00a0 They were SUPER delicious!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3037\" title=\"Strawberries\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Strawberries1.jpg\" alt=\"Strawberries\" width=\"557\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Strawberries1.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Strawberries1-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Strawberry Fruit Leather<\/h4>\n<p>recipe from <a href=\"http:\/\/flythroughmywindow.blogspot.com\/2009\/07\/summer-recipe-fruit-roll-ups.html\">Fly Through My Window<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ingredients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 lbs of strawberries, cleaned, stemmed and chopped<\/li>\n<li>2 cups of unsweetened applesauce<\/li>\n<li>Juice of 1\/2 lemon<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 to 3\/4 cup of sugar (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Blend strawberries and applesauce in blender until smooth <em>(Picky Apple note: I had to do this in batches<\/em>).\u00c2\u00a0 Add to a heavy saucepan and add sugar if needed or desired, bringing to a boil while stirring constantly.\u00c2\u00a0 Reduce heat and skim foam from the top with a spoon.\u00c2\u00a0 Simmer over low\/medium heat for 30 to 45 minutes <em>(Picky Apple note: mine took twice as long, but maybe I didn&#8217;t have the temperature high enough)<\/em>, stirring frequently, continue simmering\/stirring until mixture has properly reduced to the consistency of thick applesauce (when running a rubber spatula across the bottom of the pan the mixture should stay separated-pan should still be visible once you reach the other side).\u00c2\u00a0 Pour mixture onto a parchment or heat-safe plastic wrapped cookie sheet, spread evenly and bake at 145 for 8 to 10 hours.\u00c2\u00a0 (<em>Picky Apple note: My oven&#8217;s lowest setting is 170, and I still cooked mine for close to 11 hours)<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Cut into strips and roll up&#8230;or roll up and cut into strips!\u00c2\u00a0 They will keep in the fridge for up to a couple weeks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3028\" title=\"Strawberries 2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Strawberries-2.jpg\" alt=\"Strawberries 2\" width=\"557\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Strawberries-2.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/05\/Strawberries-2-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/06\/strawberry-fruit-leather\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This recipe falls in to the category of &#8220;things I want to make at home just to see if I can.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 The Littlest Apple likes fruit roll-ups and all of those other junky dye-filled &#8220;fruit&#8221;
