Relief at long last, right?\u00c2\u00a0 Well, not so much.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s been nothing but drama, drama, drama.<\/p>\n<p>The Good:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Littlest Apple has gained 1 pound in only 3 weeks!\u00c2\u00a0 (After not gaining any weight for about 6 months)<\/li>\n<li>We got the tube placed today after a month of waiting.<\/li>\n<li>The Picky Apple took the day off today, and was amazing.\u00c2\u00a0 Couldn&#8217;t have made it through the day without him.<\/li>\n<li>Grandparents to visit and distract.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Bad:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SO much screaming.\u00c2\u00a0 The Littlest Apple understandably didn&#8217;t tolerate the tube placement very well.<\/li>\n<li>I got a &#8220;trial by fire&#8221; lesson in NG tube placement.\u00c2\u00a0 As in, the nurses made ME do it and instructed me as we went.\u00c2\u00a0 SO nerve wracking.\u00c2\u00a0 It didn&#8217;t work the first time, so we had to do it TWICE.\u00c2\u00a0 It took 4 of us to get it done the second time.<\/li>\n<li>The waiting.\u00c2\u00a0 Our appointment was at 10:30.\u00c2\u00a0 We got home at 2:45 this afternoon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Ugly:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We were sent home with no feeding pump, only minimal supplies, and no follow up care plan.\u00c2\u00a0 As in WE HAVE A TUBE IN PLACE, BUT WE CAN&#8217;T EVEN USE IT!!!!\u00c2\u00a0 And because the nurse claims that she couldn&#8217;t find any home health care agency that was covered by our insurance, it has been left entirely up to ME to call home health care company after company on our insurance list to find someone to get out here ASAP and teach us what the heck we&#8217;re doing.\u00c2\u00a0 This is apparently somewhat unheard of.\u00c2\u00a0 And I sure don&#8217;t have any idea what I &#8216;m doing&#8230;I&#8217;m not a medical professional.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know what to ask or what I need in much detail: &#8220;What kind of pump do you need?&#8221; &#8220;Um, the kind for night feeds for a 2 year old?\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s all the info I&#8217;ve got!!&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 The doctor, who we didn&#8217;t see until after the tube was placed, was baffled by this&#8230;it is usually all set up and ready to go, but didn&#8217;t really do anything about it.\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s not the one making calls and setting stuff up.\u00c2\u00a0 Why were we even THERE?!\u00c2\u00a0 All of the home health agencies I spoke with this afternoon were baffled and shocked that we were sent home w\/o out a care plan in place.\u00c2\u00a0 RIDICULOUS.\u00c2\u00a0 Still trying to sort this all out.\u00c2\u00a0 I am beyond frustrated, bitter, and down right angry about it.\u00c2\u00a0 This has been a truly awful experience, in terms of getting what we need when we need it.<\/li>\n<li>In the meantime, we&#8217;re on constant alert to keep a stubborn and very angry 2 year old from ripping out his tube.\u00c2\u00a0 Not that it really matters, I suppose, sine we&#8217;re not exactly using it yet.\u00c2\u00a0 My husband&#8217;s betting it will get ripped out tonight after bedtime.<\/li>\n<li>The Littlest Apple has stopped talking, smiling, and laughing, at least for today.\u00c2\u00a0 He HATES the way the tape on his face feels when he moves his facial muscles, so he is trying hard not to move them at all.\u00c2\u00a0 Our normally animated little guy was a complete zombie today, and it breaks my heart.\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s miserable and mad.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3023\" title=\"NG Tube\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/NG-Tube.jpg\" alt=\"NG Tube\" width=\"557\" height=\"835\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/NG-Tube.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/NG-Tube-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hoping for a better day and a more coherent post tomorrow!<\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/29\/gi-update-feeding-tube-placement\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After a MONTH of trying to get The Littlest Apple&#8217;s NG tube placement scheduled, I got a call yesterday asking if we could come in today to get the tube placed.
