{"id":1750,"date":"2010-01-04T20:54:06","date_gmt":"2010-01-05T02:54:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/?p=1750"},"modified":"2010-01-04T20:54:06","modified_gmt":"2010-01-05T02:54:06","slug":"winter-sensory-tub-and-snow-dough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/04\/winter-sensory-tub-and-snow-dough\/","title":{"rendered":"Winter Sensory Tub and Snow Dough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I finally made a new sensory tub and and playdough to go along with our winter\/snow theme.\u00c2\u00a0 Right now we&#8217;re using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ittybittybookworm.com\/?name=Site&amp;catID=17983&amp;parentID=17376\">Itty Bitty Bookworm&#8217;s Bailey Year 2 January curriculum<\/a>, and we&#8217;re reading about snowmen and penguins.<\/p>\n<p>This is probably my favorite sensory tub so far, and The Littlest Apple seems to love it just as much as I do!\u00c2\u00a0 I think part of the reason it was such a hit with both of us was that it is super easy to clean up, way easier than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2009\/11\/06\/sensory-tub-messes\/\">those dreaded popcorn kernels<\/a>!\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve seen the idea to use cotton balls for &#8220;snow&#8221; on many blogs, including <a href=\"http:\/\/countingcoconuts.blogspot.com\/2010\/01\/january-sensory-tub-playdough.html\">Counting Coconuts<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 My sensory tub includes cotton balls, some pine cones (that are cinnamon scented), cinnamon sticks, a couple of corks, and some silver jingle bells.\u00c2\u00a0 The Littlest Apple particularly enjoyed picking up items from the sensory tub using one of my hair clips (who knew that would be such a hit?!)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1753\" title=\"Winter Sensory Tub\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Winter-Sensory-Tub.jpg\" alt=\"Winter Sensory Tub\" width=\"557\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Winter-Sensory-Tub.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Winter-Sensory-Tub-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The recipe for Snow Dough is from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ittybittybookworm.com\/?name=Site&amp;catID=17983&amp;parentID=17376\">IBB curriculum<\/a>, but I&#8217;ve seen similar ideas popping up on lots of blogs lately.\u00c2\u00a0 For another similar and easy to use playdough recipe, try <a href=\"http:\/\/mymontessorijourney.typepad.com\/my_montessori_journey\/2008\/10\/homemade-playdo.html\">this one from My Montessori Journey<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I added lots of light blue glitter and about 3 teaspoons of peppermint extract for some extra fun.\u00c2\u00a0 The Littlest Apple and I spent nearly an hour playing with this today, which is a record for any activity I think.\u00c2\u00a0 (and he was asking to get it back out later in the day!!\u00c2\u00a0 Success!)\u00c2\u00a0 We made a family of snowmen, a nest with eggs, a baby seal, igloos, snowball forts, a baby with a blanket, and candy canes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1754\" title=\"Snow Dough 1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Snow-Dough-1.jpg\" alt=\"Snow Dough 1\" width=\"557\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Snow-Dough-1.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Snow-Dough-1-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1756\" title=\"Snow Dough\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Snow-Dough.jpg\" alt=\"Snow Dough\" width=\"557\" height=\"355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Snow-Dough.jpg 557w, https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/Snow-Dough-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 557px) 100vw, 557px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"linkwithin_hook\" id=\"https:\/\/www.thepickyapple.com\/blog\/2010\/01\/04\/winter-sensory-tub-and-snow-dough\/\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I finally made a new sensory tub and and playdough to go along with our winter\/snow theme.\u00c2\u00a0 Right now we&#8217;re using Itty Bitty Bookworm&#8217;s Bailey Year 2 January curriculum, and we&#8217;re reading about snowmen and penguins.
